There are brands on the market that have always manufactured electric cars (for example Tesla), others that have been manufacturing them together with combustion cars for years (Nissan or Renault) and others that have joined much later in the electrical transition Some of the latter are luxury brands like Rolls-Royce with the Specter and others more normal like Jeep, which has just presented its first 100% electric car: the Avenger.

It is a model that directly attacks the B-SUV segment , also known as that of utility all-terrain vehicles and in which models such as the Volkswagen T-Cross or the Seat Arona stand out . But despite the fact that there will be a combustion version of the Avenger that will compete with these cars, the most remarkable thing about the new American SUV is that it will be the first model of the brand to have a completely electric engine, thus closing the circle that start models like the Jeep Compass 4xe plug-in hybrid .

The exterior design of the new Jeep Avenger stands out for evolving the master design lines of the brand, opting for straight lines and marked angles. Thus, the classic Jeep front grill is flanked by darkened optics and a bumper with fairly prominent air intakes. The checkered wheel arches stand out on the side , while the X-shaped pillars remain on the rear.

Jeep, yes...but only front wheel drive

As the Avenger uses the Stellantis Group's CMP platform (the same used by the Peugeot 2008 or the Opel Mokka) it will only be available with front-wheel drive ... which is a negative point when compared to models like the Toyota Yaris Cross or the Ford EcoSport, which can equip all-wheel drive. Of course, the Avenger stands out for offering enviable interior space and a trunk of up to 380 liters (the same as a Seat Leon or a Volkswagen Golf) with an external length of just 4.08 metres.

But it is undeniable that Jeep has a name in the off-road world, so it could not allow the fact that it cannot have all-wheel drive to reduce the off-road capabilities of its new model. Thus, he has equipped it with an angle of attack of 20º, ventral also of 20º and exit of 32º, in addition to a free height to the floor of 20 centimeters . All accompanied by an electronic descent control system and a series of driving modes that improve grip on slippery surfaces. In addition, the electric version will have a special protector for the battery located at the bottom of the vehicle.

Technologically advanced and with a very varied range of engines

At a technological level, the new Jeep Avenger, despite being the entry model to the American brand, has a very complete equipment. Elements such as the 10.25-inch digital instrument panel , the central screen of the same size with UConnect multimedia system and TomTom navigator, the Full LED lights , the keyless entry and start, the rear camera or the door stand out in particular. of the electric trunk. All in all an endowment that, by the way, comes as standard in the special 1st Edition launch version.

As we mentioned, the Jeep Avenger is the brand's first 100% electric model. Under its hood, it equips a 156 HP and 260 Nm of torque engine which, powered by a 54 kWh capacity battery, is capable of homologating a WLTP autonomy of up to 400 kilometers (550 in exclusively urban driving). The most common charging can be done in alternating current at a maximum of 11 kW, but it also supports direct current charging up to 100 kW. In this case, it only takes 24 minutes to go from 20 to 80% battery.

Just in case this electric motor isn't quite enough, Jeep has also included a gasoline engine (which will only be available in some markets). It is a block of three cylinders and 1.2 liters that generates a power of 100 CV and that is linked to a manual change of six speeds. Its consumption of 5.6 liters and its starting price of 25,900 euros (39,500 for the electric version without applying discounts) make it an option to be taken into account in the utility SUV market... all together waiting for the recharging infrastructure to improve and the price of electric vehicles to drop to make the zero-emissions option a more attractive alternative.
